Rolex Middle Sea Race

Offhore classic in the most beautiful place in the world.

About the race

The brutal Rolex Middle Sea Race is held every year, in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, following one of the most beautiful routes on the racing circuit. The race starts in Malta, runs around Sicily, including an active volcano – Stromboli. The race is part of the ‘legendary 600′ – Fastnet, Carribean 600 and the Middle Sea Race. It is organised jointly by the Royal Malta Yacht Club and RORC.

The nature of the race is demanding and it is definitely not ‘champagne on the foredeck’. Some experience is desirable, although not necessary, it’s just that you would get much more out of the race if this is not your first time sailing ever. You have to be ready for some discomfort, the race is 6 to 7 days, there is never enough sleep!

Plenty of food though., although it is mainly of the ‘add water to make soft’ variety! There is no other way to win this tough race, it can be fairly brutal and you need to be aware of what it’s all about.

Dates: 12- 25 October, 2020

Individual places are available on our race-ready super-tuned uber-fast racing machine – Intuition!! She is a Reflex 38 and was build to win.

What is it all about?

It’s the most beautiful race, it really is. The route is fantastic, you go around two active volcanos (Etna and Stromboli), around the Island of Sicily, around Favignana, Lampedusa, Pantelleria, they are all magic. Apart from Lampedusa, that is, it’s just a lump of rock, but does have some pretty exciting history.

It’s our favourite at Capstan Sailing, 100%!

I came for a 5 days course and it was freeezing! I did come in February though, so serves me right. There was a proper heater onboard though, so we we fine. The course structure was excellent, Aubrey [instructor] really knew his stuff and it was fun. Lots of mooring, which is what I was after. Feel much more confident now, and thanks for the pies, v. good 🙂

Staying in a different marina every night was the highlight for me. This is what cruising is about, I guess, so not coming back to Mercury was ideal, I got to know the Solent pretty well. Lee [instructor] was good at stepping back and letting us do it ourselves, which was very useful. Thanks again, and see you next year!

Hi guys, just a quick note to say THANKS! I was really nervous, but it was all good in the end. We just practiced every day and little by little I figured it out, I can moor! Still a little nervous, but the basics are there now, I understand what needs to be done. I’ll come back for the mile building, I think. All in all, the course was well structured, very much hands on and I liked the boat, very plush :J Thanks for a great week!
