RORC Caribbean 600
Race around almost every island in the Caribbean! Almost 🙂
RORC Caribbean 600
So there we are again, another fantastic edition of the offshore classic to look forward to! This race opens the Caribbean Racing season for us, and what an opening. We start with some training sessions, to get used to Caribbean swell and waves, it’s not quite like back home. Usually fairly windy, so a bit of practice beforehand is essential.
Dates: 21 – 29 February, 2020
Whole boat charter is available on our race-ready super-tuned uber-fast racing machine – First 40, Optimus Prime! Optimus has a proper 2.5m draft and a T-keel, which is exactly what you want in the Caribbean. We go high and fast in the 20kt breeze.

What is it all about?
Well, the racing can be very tough. This is one of the iconic ‘600 mile’ races, such as the Fastnet and the Rolex Middle Sea Race. It’s usually quite windy and bumpy, but very warm, this is the Caribbean after all! You get to go around plenty of islands, and tactics is most important! Quite a serious race, as far as they go, you’ll love it.
Here’s what they said about the start last year: 60 yachts from 11 different countries, with 682 crew from all over the world, took part in the 6th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 and enjoyed spectacular conditions and intense competition.
The start gun sounded at Fort Charlotte, high above the Pillars of Hercules, and the magnificent international fleet of yachts enjoyed a sparkling send-off with warm trade winds, Caribbean swell and brilliant sunshine.
And that’s exactly how it happens, we’ve taken part almost every year!

I came for a 5 days course and it was freeezing! I did come in February though, so serves me right. There was a proper heater onboard though, so we we fine. The course structure was excellent, Aubrey [instructor] really knew his stuff and it was fun. Lots of mooring, which is what I was after. Feel much more confident now, and thanks for the pies, v. good 🙂
James CloverStaying in a different marina every night was the highlight for me. This is what cruising is about, I guess, so not coming back to Mercury was ideal, I got to know the Solent pretty well. Lee [instructor] was good at stepping back and letting us do it ourselves, which was very useful. Thanks again, and see you next year!
Dan CollierHi guys, just a quick note to say THANKS! I was really nervous, but it was all good in the end. We just practiced every day and little by little I figured it out, I can moor! Still a little nervous, but the basics are there now, I understand what needs to be done. I’ll come back for the mile building, I think. All in all, the course was well structured, very much hands on and I liked the boat, very plush :J Thanks for a great week!
